Kamala Harris and the Misalignment with Black Voter Expectations: A Cutting Analysis
We Are Not All Amused or Fooled: ASK SOMEBODY!
As the 2024 election looms, Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are ramping up their efforts to court Black voters. Recent events in Detroit illustrate the Democrats’ strategy to tap into the historically reliable support of Black communities, especially Black women. But make no mistake—this approach is laced with hypocrisy and deceit. We, the descendants of formerly enslaved Americans, are not fooled. Our eyes are open, and our patience is wearing thin. The truth must be told: Kamala Harris’s candidacy is a betrayal of our expectations and a misalignment with our urgent needs.
( American Aisha, featured below, is an example of many Black African Americans who are not falling for identity politics. Harris and the corrupt DNC had better take heed. )
The Reality of Kamala Harris’s Record
Kamala Harris’s record as California Attorney General and as Vice President is riddled with contentious decisions that have not served Black communities well:
Mass Incarceration and Exploitation: Harris defended California’s practice of using incarcerated individuals as free labor to fight wildfires. This policy, which exploits Black and Brown bodies for economic gain, is a grotesque reminder of how the criminal justice system continues to perpetuate injustice without addressing systemic reform.
Punitive School Truancy Policies: Harris implemented measures that threatened single parents with jail time for their children’s truancy. This approach disproportionately harmed low-income families and maintained a cycle of punitive actions rather than addressing the root causes of educational inequities.
A Questionable Stance on Reparations: While Harris’s rhetoric may sound progressive, her record is less so. During the 2020 presidential primaries, she downplayed her commitment to reparations—a crucial issue for Black Americans—by interrupting Marianne Williamson, who was pushing for reparations, only to later dismiss the need for targeted assistance for Black people.
The Disconnect Between Campaign Promises and Policy
Despite Harris’s polished campaign rallies and upbeat messaging, the stark reality is her past actions and policies offer little assurance of meaningful change. The vibrant rallies and high-profile speeches are but a façade masking the deep-seated disconnect between her promises and her record. The question remains: Can we trust that the enthusiasm displayed at these events will translate into genuine, substantive change?
Contrast with Alternative Voices
Marianne Williamson’s campaign, despite facing severe suppression and blacklisting by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and mainstream media, resonated with over half a million voters. Her platform, which included the 21st Century Economic Bill of Rights, the establishment of a Department of Peace, and reparations for descendants of enslaved Americans, offered a refreshing and necessary vision for the future. The DNC’s refusal to allow a primary challenge to Joe Biden and their obstruction of Williamson’s campaign underscores a troubling pattern of undemocratic practices. Is what we are witnessing truly democracy, or is it a dictatorship in disguise?
Misconceptions About Critics of Kamala Harris
It is essential to dispel the myth that critics of Kamala Harris are mere supporters of Donald Trump. This is a false dichotomy. Our dissatisfaction with Harris is not about supporting Trump but about demanding a political system that genuinely addresses our needs and holds itself accountable. The manipulation of the DNC in 2016, which undermined Bernie Sanders and contributed to Trump’s rise, illustrates the dangers of an unchecked political establishment. As history threatens to repeat itself, we must remain vigilant.
Conclusion: The Challenge for Black Voters
As Election Day approaches, Black voters face the critical task of evaluating whether Harris’s campaign promises will translate into real change. The energy at rallies must not overshadow the pressing concerns about her past decisions and the effectiveness of her policies. Our focus must be on ensuring that our voices are heard and that our needs are met with genuine commitment, not empty promises.
